BBC Countryfile Calendar 2017

A first major competition success! “Touch Down” was one of the runners up in BBC Countryfile Calendar competition in 2016 themed “FROM DAWN TILL DUSK.” It appeared on the July 2017 page of the following year’s Calendar.

Touch Down

Bass Rock is an imposing rocky island rising over 100m sheer from the Firth of Forth, Scotland. During the nesting season it is estimated to host about 150,000 migrating northern gannets brooding in close proximity to the cliffs.

This gannet was slowing down in flight in order to negotiate a safe landing on a cliff face nesting site.
